Question:
How does CGI work?
Answer:

CGI programs are programs that actually execute on the web server, not on the client's computer. They retrieve data that was sent from user input, manipulate that input, and then return a response to the user's web browser. CGI programs can be written on almost any computer, as long as that language will execute on the server that it resides on. Our servers support CGI, PHP, .jsp and java servlets.

Question:
Does Infinity Digital have any CGI scripts that I can use?
Answer:

Yes. Currently we have a basic form templates that will email the contents of a form that you create to a specified email address. You can then customize the submission response as well as the email that you receive. CGI can also be used effectively to make powerful interactive presentations, perform surveys, and analyze and generate customized reports.

Question:
Will I have my own cgi-bin directory?
Answer:

All customers have their own local cgi-bin in which custom CGI scripts are placed. CGI is often used to accomplish tasks which are not supported under basic HTML webpages, such as a "hit" counter or guest book or a form that forwards emails to an email address.

Question:
What is an SSL? Why is it required?
Answer:

Information sent from one computer to another computer can pass through numerous other computers before it reaches the destination. These intermediary computers can monitor and replace the information that we are sending. So to safeguard privacy, we encrypt information before we send it over the Internet. So the encrypted data is meaningless for these intermediary persons and also if the data is changed , the intended recipient will know it was altered. SSL is a protocol used for this encryption purpose.

The Certification Authorities (CA) issues certificates. A certificate is a file that contains certain identifying information. The file is signed with the CA's private key to guarantee its authenticity. Both clients and servers can have certificates. When a server sends its certificate to a client, the process is called server authentication. When a client sends a certificate to a server, the process is called client authentication. Both the browser and the server use an SSL security handshake (exchange of certificates) to initiate a secure TCP/IP connection. The client and server agree on the level of security they will use and how to fulfill authentication requirements for their connection. After the handshake, the only role of SSL is to encrypt and decrypt the WWW service byte stream. The WWW service and the Web browser encrypt all the information in both request and response, including:

  • The URL the client is requesting
  • Any submitted form contents, such as credit card numbers
  • Any WWW service user names and passwords.
  • All data the server sends back to the client
Question:

Answer:

We specialize in Virtual Web Hosting which means that you can find a home for your web site on our web servers and establish a presence on the Internet. We can help register your own domain name which will become your unique address on the World Wide Web. Email can be addressed to your domain (e.g. WWW.YOURNAME.COM ) , so you will not have to announce a new email address if you change Internet providers.

Question:
Will I be able to access my domain name with or without "www"?

If you require more information about our products and services please email our sales team at sales@infinitydigital.com and they will be glad to assist you.

Question:
Does Infinity Digital allow "bulk email"?
Answer:

No, we do not allow our email servers to be used for the purpose of sending unsolicited or "bulk email". The reasons for this are quite numerous but the main problem involves the security of our Web and email servers against retaliatory flames, so called email "bombs", and various other attacks, that such use would inevitably generate. While we make every effort to secure our servers from these kinds of attacks, if we were to permit our clients to engage in "bulk email" practices we would jeopardize the security and integrity of the email and Web services for all our clients.

Question:
What contract and payment terms are available?
Answer:

We can bill monthly but most people prefer to pay for hosting in a single annual payment. We do not require a minimum contract for our shared hosting plans. We accept Visa, Master Card and American Express. We ask our clients who wish to pay via check, to send us a check covering at least the first 6 months of hosting. We will activate your account as soon as your check has cleared.

Since some services provided are usage based (i.e. Disk Space and Data Transfer), they are charged in arrears at the beginning of the month following the month they were incurred. If you cancel your account, you will still be responsible for any additional usage that is incurred.

Question:
Why is my credit card being declined?

The online transaction processes in place have been added to protect you, but in some cases can create inconveniences such as the need to verify some transactions.
